China Denies Using COVID-19 Anal Swabs On US Diplomats

The Chinese government has denied allegations claiming that the US diplomats stationed in China were made to take anal swab tests for COVID following reports that the US Diplomats had complained about the procedure.

It’s obvious that all over the world, China has largely brought the virus under control. Foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian at a daily news briefing in Beijing said that “China has never requested US diplomatic personnel in China to undergo anal swabs.”

State media reports that anal swabs had been used in Beijing during a small outbreak in January caused a social media uproar, with many commenters on Twitter-like Weibo reacting with a mix of horror and amusement.
But officials acknowledged it would be hard to use anal swabs as widely as the other methods, which have been used to test millions in mass campaigns, as the former technique was “not convenient.”

Meanwhile, a US State Department representative said it was “committed to guaranteeing the safety and security of American diplomats and their families while preserving their dignity”.

Although many have condemned the Anal swab test the procedure has been applied in China because it is reportedly more accurate than nasal or mouth swabs.
