“Love is a decision, it is a judgment, it is a promise. If love were only a feeling, there would be no basis for the promise to love each other forever. A feeling comes and it may go. How can I judge that it will stay forever, when my act does not involve judgment and decision.” ― Erich Fromm, The Art of Loving
It’s valentine’s dayyyy! Long-awaited, overhyped by both singles and couples. Most of us don’t even know what love is, we treat love as something that happens to us or we are in. You say these words so plainly; “I Love You”, most times it’s a declaration of feelings. However, Love is NOT a Feeling! Love is a CHOICE. Love is an act, a decision. It is deliberate, it is committing. Acting on feelings rather than decisions creates an unstable life that’s built on the ever-changing ground because feelings come and go like clouds in a windy sky. our emotions can’t be trusted. Love as a feeling is temporary, but a decision is like saying; “Hey, today I might not feel like I normally feel but I’ll consciously decide to love you even through my rough moments.”
Love is about seeing people for who they are, every part of their personality and accepting that they are worth fighting for regardless of what their actions made you feel. 1Corinthians13:5
Seeing love as a conscious decision gives you control. It takes away the doubt and shows you that yes, love is real and you’re choosing it. If love is a feeling, then we can’t promise forever but it can be a DECISION you make to ACT on an emotion forever.
I may go on and on about what I believe Love is and what it’s not. However, more importantly, what does the word of God say about LOVE.
1Corinthians13: 4–8, is everything Love is and Love ought to be.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
I believe the Word of God has enlightened us on the “Ideal Love”. Have a wonderful Valentine everyone spread the love of God with everyone around you (not just your significant other, crush and family members or friends. Even the poor and less privileged deserve to be loved😊 ❤)
